Various types of constipation treatments

Constipation is a health condition wherein a person pass bowel less than three times a week. This condition causes discomfort, stomach pain, bloated feeling and even nausea. When a person is constipated, stools become dry and lumpy therefore much straining is exerted when passing stools. One who suffers from constipation will always look for a treatment for their ailment. Passing stool seems a simple thing for most people but not to those who are often constipated. Depending on the reason of constipation treatments can vary. Some constipation treatments have people change their diet and even take medication. The following is a list of different constipation treatments you can take:

  • Eat more dietary fiber. This is amongst the easiest treatments available. You can do this by eating many fruits and vegetables that are rich in fibers. Ideally, this means a minimum of five servings a day, whether fruits or vegetables. These natural laxatives provide a safer alternative to the pills you can buy at your local pharmacy.
  • Laxatives.  Since these are over-the-counter medicines, they are easy to retrieve. Laxative treatments are the easier to purchase than most other medications because they are over-the-counter medicines. However, there are also different types of laxative that one should be aware of. Lubricant laxatives relieve constipation by coating the stool’s surface.  This simplifies the defecation process by lessening the amount of strain required to release the feces. There is a laxative called saline that absorbs the fluids inside of fecal matter to make them softer. A classic example of this saline laxative is Milk of Magnesia.  Stimulant laxatives are the most aggressive constipation treatments since they force a person to disembowel. Laxatives can be effective but doctors do not advise prolonged use for health reasons.

Get up and exercise

One should also change their lifestyle when going under treatment. People who do not get out much tend to have a higher occurrence of constipation than those who live an active lifestyle. You can stimulate your digestive system by taking a short walk after a meal.

Lovely enema
